Eddy Current Separator is a device that uses the eddy current principle to separate different metal materials. It is widely used in waste material recycling, mineral processing, plastic sorting and other fields, especially in separating non-ferrous metals and other materials.

Working Principle

The eddy current separator generates eddy current through a rotating magnetic field, thereby separating metal materials from non-metallic materials. Its core principles are as follows:

  1. Magnetic field induction: The rotating magnetic poles in the machine generate a high-speed changing magnetic field. When non-ferromagnetic metals (such as aluminum, copper, zinc, etc.) enter the magnetic field, the metal will generate eddy current.
  2. Magnetic repulsion: The eddy current in turn generates a reverse magnetic field. This reverse magnetic field interacts with the rotating magnetic field of the machine to generate a repulsive force, causing the metal material to deviate from its original track.
  3. Separation effect: By adjusting the rotation speed and other parameters of the machine, different types of metals can be separated from other materials.

Application fields

Eddy current separators are mainly used in the following fields:

  • Waste material recycling: Separate non-ferrous metals (such as aluminum, copper, etc.) from waste to achieve resource recycling and reuse.
  • Plastic separation: Used to separate non-ferrous metal substances from plastic waste and improve the purity of plastics.

Structural composition

  1. Rotating magnetic pole (rotor): The core part of the eddy current separator, responsible for generating an alternating magnetic field. It usually consists of multiple magnetic poles to ensure the continuous change of the magnetic field.
  2. Separation slot: When the material passes through this slot, the magnetic field generates a repulsive force on the metal material to separate it.
  3. Transmission system: Usually composed of a conveyor belt or a vibrating conveyor, responsible for transporting the material to the separation area.
  4. Separation area: This area uses different repulsive forces to separate metal materials from other materials according to the metal properties of the material.
  5. Control system: used to adjust the machine’s working parameters, such as magnetic field strength, sorting speed, etc.

Common Problems and Solutions

  1. Unsatisfactory sorting effect:
  • Check whether the material size meets the requirements of the equipment. Oversized materials may not generate suitable eddy currents.
  • Ensure that the magnetic pole speed and strength are set correctly.
  • Check whether the sorting tank is blocked, affecting the flow of materials.
  1. The equipment does not start:
  • Check whether the power supply and control panel are normal.
  • Check whether the safety protection system is triggered. Some protection measures may prohibit the equipment from starting.
  1. Abnormal noise or vibration:
  • Check whether the rotor is balanced and whether the magnetic poles on the rotor are loose.
  • Check whether the conveyor belt is stuck or uneven.
